Pressing send, she then checked her diary to make sure she had nothing urgent to take care of that morning. She made a quick phone call to Toby at the office, knowing that even with all of his enthusiasm, he would not be in yet, but left a voicemail giving him some drafting to get on with, telling him she would be in by 10am. She then dropped a quick email to her secretary to tell her the same, but that she would, of course, be available on her mobile should any clients need to contact her urgently.

Her decisive actions were contributing to an improvement in her mindset. Either that, or the Nurofen were doing a stellar job at killing her headache, and the cereal bar at settling her stomach, so she could function as normal. She glanced at her phone. 6.26am. She had about forty-five minutes before she had to go and meet Nick.

She refused to let her mind think about what she would have to say to him. Instead, she thought of the papers that were still unread in her bag.
